The Dovo  Straight Razor Prima Black Ebony 5/8 has been a classic in Dovo’s Solingen range for decades. Each one is handmade and leaves the workshop as a uniquely crafted tool — no two quite alike.

The blade is 1.2210 silver steel, a premium carbon steel hardened to around 61 HRC for a keen edge with real elasticity, finished with 24k gold ornamentation against a deep ebony handle. Hollow-ground for flexibility and that satisfying “sing” as it works, with a forgiving round point that stays safe around the ears, nose and dimples.

At 5/8″ it’s a true all-rounder — heavy enough to glide under its own weight, nimble enough for the tight passages around the jaw. If you’re stepping up to your first proper straight razor, this is the one to reach for.

How to Use

1. Strop the blade on a leather strop before you begin.
2. Soften the beard with a hot shower, then lather up generously.
3. Hold the razor with the handle pointing away, blade at ~30° to the skin.
4. Stretch the skin taut and draw the blade down in short strokes, with the grain.
5. Re-lather and finish against the grain for a closer result.
6. Rinse, dry without touching the edge, and store open to air fully.

Pro Tip: It’s carbon steel, so rinse and dab dry after every shave, and rest it at least 48 hours between uses so the edge realigns. Storing it a while? Wipe on a little acid-free oil to keep rust away.
