Dovo has been forging shaving steel in Solingen, Germany for over a century, and the Dovo Straight Razor Inox black 3/8 is one of the purest expressions of that craft — a folding straight razor made with a stainless steel blade and black celluloid scales.

The full wedge (flat) grind is what sets it apart. With no concave shaping to the bevel, the blade carries more steel behind the edge, giving it the heft to power through coarse, thick beards and the durability to stay sharp far longer than a hollow-ground blade. It’s a more demanding razor to master, which makes it best suited to experienced straight-razor shavers rather than first-timers.

At just 3/8″ wide, it’s also nimble. The French point nose and rounded heel let you get into the tight corners around the nose and jaw, and the narrower profile makes it a genuinely capable tool for beard trimming and hair thinning as well as a traditional wet shave. The blade is finished with Dovo’s gold wash Inox branding, texturing on the tang for grip, and stamped Dovo Stainless marking — and it ships in a reusable Dovo Solingen presentation case.

How to Use

1. Soften the beard first — shave straight after a hot shower or hold a warm, wet washcloth to the face.
2. Build a rich lather with a brush and quality soap or cream, working it in to swell the hairs.
3. Hold the open razor between thumb and three fingers, scales pointing away from the face, blade at roughly 30° to the skin.
4. Stretch the skin taut with your free hand and shave with the grain in short, straight strokes.
5. Start on the flat, even areas before moving to the trickier spots — go steeper around the lip, dimples and corners.
6. For a closer finish, re-lather and take a second light pass against the grain.
7. Rinse in hot water, dry thoroughly without touching the blade edge, and store completely dry.

Pro Tip: Always strop before every shave, never after — and rest the blade at least 48 hours (longer is better) between uses. Letting the edge recover is half the secret to a wedge razor that shaves like glass for years.
